As part of the training activities of the “e-Fairs & Trade Networking” project, the Hellenic German Chamber of Commerce and Industry held a workshop in Thessaloniki, on the 22nd of January. The event aimed to inform Greek enterprises about Virtual Fairs and specifically to acquaint them with the process of participating in a virtual trade fair through the use of the project’s web-platform particularly developed for this purpose by the Hellenic German Chamber (Coordinator). Over 20 participants from various enterprises attended the demonstration of the platform and provided valuable feedback and suggestions.

In the first part of the event Ms. A. Tavlaridou (Hellenic German Chamber), made a short introduction on the project scope and its past and future actions. Then, Mr. J. Moras (Dtek Technical Consultants), presented the benefits of Virtual Fairs, the project’s platform and made a tour on the features and capabilities of the platform in the perspective of the exhibitor but also the visitor.Virtual Fairs are flexible, manageable from any place. They ensure low costs of participation and provide information and statistics that can easily be edited by the exhibitor.

On the second part of the event, Dr. Chr. Koloniari, (Exhibitions Research Institute), reviewed ways and means that companies can raise subsidies in the programming period 2014 - 2020. She also presented the current status of digital marketing, and its ability to support a company in its export activities and the expansion of its brand name.

In the event there was fruitful discussion with the contribution of the audience, on the potential improvements of the platform and the benefits which could be given to exhibitors and visitors. There was also a broader discussion about the wider usage of digital media in the modern-business. It was typically said that Virtual Fairs cannot substitute in any way a natural Trade Fair but is a complementary tool of the marketing strategy of a company, that consort with the modern digital lifestyle.

The Hellenic German Chamber of Commerce and Industry as a representative of large German Trade Fair organizations maintains and constantly expands its services in the exhibition area and through this project extends its range of services in new digital applications and alternatives of promotion.
